Facts about Medical Doctors
Medical Doctors account for the vast majority
of "doctors" in the United States and Canada. So facts you may not know
about M.D.'s are below:
1. The average GPA and MCAT scores are
significantly higher for M.D.'s than for any other doctoral degree. (Average
M.D. collegiate GPA is 3.6 or higher)
2. The vast majority of Medical Research is
produced by Medical Doctors. M.D.'s and/or PhD's produce over 90% of the
medical research noted in the MEDLINE.
3. M.D.'s are held to the highest standards
of any medical professional. M.D.'s must complete M.D. residencies and M.D.
boards and they are not allowed to take any other boards (unlike other
degrees)
4. Medical Schools are strictly regulated by
the government since most M.D. schools are publicly supported. Medical
schools must meet certain standards as dictated by the government.
5. M.D.'s are the only medical doctoral
degree recognized worldwide as a medical degree.
